This sculpture of a very young child "reading" to his mother was inspired by the sculptor's own experience with her son. The sculpture was created in 1996 in clay at her studio in Pietrasanta, Italy, then a plaster cast made. After finding a large block of beautiful "fresh snow" statuario marble from the mountains above Carrara, the piece was roughed out in Italy. The sculptor moved it to her studio on San Juan Island and is now completing the carving.
It is over life size in scale; with marble base it will measure 7 ft. tall by about 3-1/2 ft. in diameter at the floor. Finished weight is estimated at just under 900 kilos.
